Our Services Structure

EMPC provides a range of different services and types of treatment that is dependent on the nature of the presenting condition. The aims of physiotherapy are to diagnose and manage musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, such as those listed below Physiotherapy is a science that is continually evolving with new research and techniques, which assist our patients to achieve better outcomes.

The primary aims of Physiotherapy are:

  • To diagnose the condition or problem.
  • Restore joint and muscle mobility/flexibility.
  • Reduce or eliminate pain.
  • Regain pre-injury function.
  • Prevent further re-occurrence.
  • Educate patients on effective ways to look after their bodies.

The Initial Consultation

Here we spend 40 minutes with a patient, which is solely one on one contact time. The purpose of the initial consultation is to perform a comprehensive assessment of the problem. This will involve a subjective assessment, where we will discuss the problem and ask a series of questions to enable us to determine what anatomical structure is most likely the source of the pain.

We will then perform a physical or objective assessment where you will be asked to perform certain movements and undergo various physical or hands on tests. This is to then confirm our diagnosis and eliminate other possible sources of pain. This process is called clinical reasoning.

We will then explain to you what the likely cause of the problem is, in language that you will understand. We will also endeavour to provide a prognosis or an estimation of the time frame for recovery. This will depend on various factors, which are explained in more detail on the next few pages.

The Review Consultation

The purpose of the review consultation is three fold:

  1. To ascertain your response to the initial treatment.
  2. To confirm or refute our hypothesis or diagnosis made in the initial examination.
  3. To progress your treatment which may include further home exercise prescription.

The review consultation takes 20 minutes, which again is one on one contact time involving primarily hands-on manual therapy. After you have completed a course of treatment and your condition has resolved, you may receive a follow up call from your physiotherapist to ensure you???re o.k. and the problem has not reoccurred.
